PRESS RELEASE MONTE CARLO Beer Festival “Oktoberfest 2010” – Fifth edition

The “Oktoberfest 2010” will take place in true Bavarian tradition from October 22 to 30 in a marquee set up on the Café de Paris' new terrace, decorated for the occasion in the colours of Monaco and Bavaria. This fifth edition, eagerly awaited after the remarkable success of the first four, is once again organised by the Société des Bains de Mer and T.A. Distribution S.A.M., the official importer of premium beers from the Weihenstephan brewery and of the health drink XAN Wellness.

Opening Ceremony:
The opening ceremony will take place inside the marquee at the Café de Paris at 6pm on October 22 and will be evocative of Munich’s Oktoberfest. Thus, this German-Monegasque festival will be opened by the traditional tapping of the first keg of beer to the traditional cry of “O’Zapft is” in the presence of H.S.H. Prince Albert II, Monegasque officials and a Bavarian delegation.

Entertainment:
The group “Echt Guat,” which was such a success in previous years, will be accompanied on this occasion by two special Bavarian singers – called “Jodlerinnen” – who will present a varied repertoire, creating a cheery and festive atmosphere on as well as off the dance floor. During the opening ceremony, the Monegasque folklore group “La Palladienne” will join “Echt Guat” in celebrating an event designed to strengthen the bonds of friendship between the Monaco and Bavaria.

Beer and Fine Dining:
With its various beers, Weihenstephan – not only the oldest brewery in the world but actually owned by the Bavarian state – will provide the best that the Bavarian tradition has to offer. The beers presented are Weihenstephaner Original, Hefeweissbier (white beer) and Kristallweissbier, winner of the coveted “Grand Champion Trophy” in Melbourne.

The menu is wide-ranging. As in previous years, it comprises German specialities for which numerous items will be imported directly from Bavaria. This year, Jean-Pierre Boutonnet – chef of the well-known “Bräustüberl” in Freising, within the grounds of the Weihenstephan brewery www.braeustueberl-weihenstephan.de – will work alongside his counterpart Jacques Lambert of the Café de Paris to serve fine food of the highest standard, combining tradition and innovation.

And Well-being:
The health drink XAN Wellness will provide an ideal alternative for all those not wanting to consume alcohol. This malty/fruity drink is rich in xanthohumol, an antioxidant natural occurring in hops. Developed by researchers at Munich’s Technical University together with scientists at the Weihenstephan brewery, XAN Wellness is distributed by TA-XAN AG and T.A. Distribution S.A.M.
